LOUISA LOAKES BLOCK PRINTING WORKSHOP
We are delighted to be stocking Louisa's beautiful hand block printed bags and now you can join Louisa Loakes at Barkened and learn the art of block printing.
Only 6 spaces available per session and all your materials are provided.
Block printing is a technique that involves transferring designs and patterns onto fabric. A block is covered in dye this is then pressed onto the fabric - this can be then repeated over the entire surface of the fabric to create a pattern repeat.
Participants of this workshop will gain a basic understanding of the technique of block printing. Focusing on line as inspiration for your design in this workshop you will have a chance to carve your own simple lino block to turn into a pattern repeat. You will have a chance to twist and turn the block to play with your repeat before finally printing. This workshop will give you an idea of the process and what it has to offer with a creative approach to pattern and you are then free to take your material home with you and make an item of your choice at a later date.
Louisa Loakes was formally trained at Wimbledon School of Art. She has a Fine Art Painting background. Her work can be seen in Liberty’s and The New Craftsmen. She will share her love of contemporary pattern and colour with you.
